I rented a projector and recreated the standard screen for “no signal input” in Photoshop. Now I can give out a signal to the projector that actually looks like there is no signal. Since most people experience how devices like this projector don’t always work as they are supposed to every other day, I wanted to trick the viewer into thinking that my actual work could not be displayed.
Since I didn’t set this up in a gallery but in the studio space at the art college that is shared by a lot of people, I quickly noticed that there was a great difference between what an artist sees and what normal viewers experience. An artist would find it hard to like it if he doesn’t understand what is going on. After showing it to some fellow students, I had to place the cursor on top of the image so the intervention that took place could be reconstructed.
